Estimate corn yield

Before starting the estimation, be sure to have a measuring tape and a 30-feet rope on hand.

Walk for 50 feet along the side of the field
Go 50-75 feet perpendicularly into the field
Measure row spacing (in inches)
Measure a 30-feet distance in a row
Count all cobs on each side of the row over 30 feet
Pull 3 cobs: the 5th, the 8th and the 11th
Measure length of each of the 3 cobs (in inches)
On each of the 3 cobs, count the number of grain rows (even number)
On each of the 3 cobs, count the number of grains on a representative row
Evaluate growth stage
Give an overall appreciation of the field and grain condition
Note the GPS coordinates or use the GPS positioning tool on your cell phone
